Department of regional development and public administration is multidisciplinary department at the Faculty of regional development and international studies. In the personal field has experts in geography, public administration, regional policy and marketing. This combination allows comprehensively ensure high quality education in field of regional development and regional science, public administration, economics and territorial marketing. Across all areas of interest mentioned above the training in geographical information systems (GIS), as a further deepening of the spatial dimension of regional development studies. The knowledge of GIS is currently necessary not only in the majority of regional sciences, but in particular also for the future employment of graduates in the field of regional development and public administration. Therefore, the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in GIS are used in most specialized subjects taught at the Department of regional development and public administration. Scientific research activities of workers is based on their expertise and it stresses the multidisciplinary approach mentioned above. Research activities are carried out in both theoretical (research projects GAČR etc.) and practical areas - in the form of cooperation with the public administrations institutions and authorities (the South Moravian region), as well as with private bodies (e.g. Dring consulting Ltd , GaREP Ltd). As it arise from a wide range of research topics, the Department of regional development and public administration benefits from the cooperation with other university and academic institutions, e.g. Masaryk university Faculty of science, Palacký University in Olomouc Faculty of science, Matej Bel University Banská Bystrica, Institute of Geonics AS CR, v. v. i. and many others. Research results of the staff are published in many prestigious magazines, including international recognized journals.
